I took a class about the basics of mold making this past semester. I learned to make plaster and rubber molds, which gave me the capability to cast in liquid ceramic, plaster, plastics, resins, rubber, and wax. So much fun and great skills to have for the future. The objects are totally random things I found to make molds of because the only requirement for each assignment was size. Here are the molds with their finished castings.
- My favorite one. Little PEZ lamby. In plaster and rubber.
- Rubber casting of a coke bottle. Love it!
- Waste mold. I sculpted the head and then the mold gets destroyed in the process. Hence “waste” mold. The final piece is a super hard plaster called Hydrocal.
- Pasilla pepper. Cast in wax, then cast in bronze. There are also ceramic versions glazed green (no pictures).
- Tissue box. Last minute change. Couldn’t figure out what else to mold.
