This is my work from the foundations course: Color and Design. The projects are nearly all made using gouache on bristol board/paper. They take an extremely long time to finish. Not only is it difficult to mix just the right colors, but paint quality is very important. The texture of the bristol board should show through the paint, but it has to be thick enough so no white shows through. There can be NO brush strokes. The goal is to make it look as if the paper is somehow colored. Wow. And the problem with all this is that I’m a perfectionist. I think I spend even more time than most. The future projects are going to be even harder so I think I’ll have to get over it some to speed up the process. I will continue to update this page as the semester goes on.

First Assignment. Harder than it looks to get a smooth transition. Can't be any "jumps."

Second Assignment. Designed in Illustrator and traced onto cardstock. Painted using frisket (sticky sheet of plastic, use xacto blade to cut out shapes. Basically an instant stencil.)

Third Assignment. Starting to mix color paint! This is where it gets tricky as every paint has its own consistency. Not to mention I don't know a thing about color yet. All these little babies are hand-cut by the way.

Fourth Assignment. This was definitely the most fun. Pick a section of the color wheel, mix colors, and paint by numbers. We were given a posterized image to paint on. The fun is because it was freehand. No frisket!

Here comes the self portrait. These are the images I have posterized to bring in next class. I think this is my favorite, as it best represents my personality. 1 of 3

I have to say the first photo for your self-portrait is definitely my favorite. You’re stuff is awesome! The Analogous portrait is so freakin’ cool looking. Quality art I say sir.
Thank you! I never thought I would actually have fun in this class.
